Conversations need to replace dead-end dashboards
Posted on Tuesday, 3 February 2015

Dashboards are finite resources. An effective dashboard can address many questions, but it won’t answer all of them. More insights can be gained by analyzing the same data set in a different way or asking new questions.

Tableau’s Social Content Manager, Andy Cotgreave discusses the need to shift from static dashboards to conversations with data. His initial dashboard about US Road Fatalities was remixed and improved by a data analyst, Kris Erickson.

Read about it here.

Cotgreave identifies three benefits of treating dashboards as conversations: discovering new stories, confirming previous conclusions, and creating new perspectives to create deeper understanding. With its built-in best practices and drag-and-drop interface, Tableau enables its users to remix and rethink visualizations without the limitations of wizards or prompts.
